Another classic of women’s football will be played this Saturday (6). At 4:30 PM (Brasília time), the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, USA, will be the stage for the duel between Brazil and Canada, who will face each other in the semifinals of the SheBelieves Tournament.

The competition is part of the national team’s preparation for the Paris Olympic Games. The SheBelieves Tournament has been held annually in the United States since 2016. Four national teams participate, including the host team. Brazil is making its fourth appearance and is aiming for its first title.

The match also marks Brazil’s return after the impressive campaign at the SheBelieves Cup, held last month in the United States. Brazil finished as the runner-up after winning five out of six matches.

Head-to-head

This is not the first encounter between these two teams. With a balanced history, in 30 previous matches, Brazil emerged victorious on ten occasions, with the most recent being in friendly matches in 2023, which marked the coach’s debut with the national team. Canada has won 12 and drawn eight matches.

In the first encounter, Debinha scored the winning goal in stoppage time in Montreal, reaching the milestone of 60 goals wearing the national team’s jersey. However, in the second match, the Canadian team came out on top, winning 2-0 in Halifax.

The national team coach, Arthur Elias, commented on the match against Canada, analyzing and projecting the duel as part of the preparation for the Olympic Games.

“Canada is an opponent that we know well, and undoubtedly, it will be a very competitive game, as were the other two matches we faced. We don’t know exactly what the biggest challenges in the match will be, but we know that it’s a team that varies its marking height and has fast players on the flanks. In this preparation for the Olympic Games, I believe it’s very valuable to face a team of Canada’s caliber,” he said.

The coach, who has been testing the Brazilian team, also spoke about the change in line-ups during the tournament.

“There will be two different line-ups from one match to another. The focus remains on evaluating with a lot of criteria and fairness, giving opportunities to the players who were called up,” concluded the coach.
