Ronaldo Nazário is preparing to sell his shares of the corporation that controls Cruzeiro. The one who will take possession of them will be the businessman Pedro Lourenço, who confirmed a meeting for this afternoon with “O Fenômeno” to finalize the details of the purchase.

“(Meeting) at 4:00 p.m. at the Toca, Ronaldo arrived (in Belo Horizonte) and we’re going to talk. The negotiation was delayed for a few days. Alexandre Mattos is excited and we count 100% on him, our football man. Pedro Junior will be Alexandre’s assistant, sharing the functions,” Lourenço told Itatiaia radio station.

The legendary Brazilian forward had acquired 90% of Raposa’s shares at the end of 2021, when the club was still in Serie B. In his first year, the club returned to the top flight, and even though there was a risk of relegation in 2023, Cruzeiro achieved safety and even qualified for the 2024 CONMEBOL Sudamericana.

This year has not been easy so far, as the bet on Nicolás Larcamón as coach didn’t last long: after losing the state championship final against lifelong rivals Atlético-MG, the Argentine manager was fired. Previously, they had been eliminated from the Copa do Brasil by fourth-tier side Sousa Esporte Clube.

“What I have to say to our fans is that the owner of Cruzeiro is our fan. I am not the owner, we will change that connection with the fan. The fan will be heard, I will open the doors to the press, the press also needs to be heard. It’s not a business, I’m not buying a business, it’s my passion,” Lourenço promised.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach. The first three episodes are available on Sambafoot’s Youtube channel. Stay tuned for the upcoming releases as we keep telling this legend’s life story.
