With a name that unequivocally pays homage to the former English football star, Beckham Castro is forging his own story. The 20-year-old winger is one of the most promising prospects at Millonarios, the opponent of Flamengo in the start of the Copa Libertadores.

His father decided to name him after the idolatry for the former midfielder of Manchester United and Real Madrid. Beckham Castro was born in the beautiful city of Cartagena on September 12, 2003, shortly after the Englishman’s arrival at the famous Galácticos team, which also included Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo Nazário, Raúl, and Luis Figo, among others.

Emerging from Millonarios’ youth divisions, he made his professional debut for the first team on March 3 last year. Two months later, he scored his first goal and almost simultaneously had his first international club match against Peñarol (Uruguay) in the Copa Sudamericana.

Wearing the number 11 on his back, he was a key player last season in the team that became champions of the Colombian Superliga after defeating Junior de Barranquilla. Currently, coach Alberto Gamero alternates him between the starting lineup and the bench, but he is one of the players called up for today’s match at 7 PM (Brasília time) at the El Campín stadium in Bogotá.

Beckham Castro played the full 90 minutes in the last match’s victory against Fortaleza FC in the Colombian tournament. It remains to be seen whether the coach, who fielded an alternative squad for that match, considers that the young footballer is ready to start in what will be his debut in a Libertadores match.

Beyond this match, it is clear that he is one of the biggest promises of Colombian football and has already been part of the country’s Under-20 national team. Millonarios knows that they have to take care of their gem and has already renewed his contract until 2026.
