Former Sevilla striker Luís Fabiano played his final game in a São Paulo shirt on Saturday at the Morumbi stadium.
Fabiano is leaving the club, but he cannot say goodbye to the team in the way he would have expected as the striker suffered an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee, which is considered serious, and will not face Goiás on Sunday at the Estádio Serra Dourada in the last round of this season’s Brazilian Championship. The injury occurred in the club’s 3-2 victory over Figueirense at the Morumbi last weekend. With his contract ending this month, Fabiano had already confirmed the departure from the team last week, days before taking on Figueirense.
A victory against Goiás ensures a top-4 finish and a Copa Libertadores spot next season for São Paulo. In case of a draw or a defeat, they would have to root against Internacional who takes on Cruzeiro at the Estádio Beira-Rio on the same day and time.
