Since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2007, the Portugal international has been involved in a number of incidents that have lead to his reputation being heavily criticised.

The most publicised one came in the first-leg of last months Copa del Rey quarter-final between Real Madrid and Barcelona, where Pepe appeared to deliberately stamp on Lionel Messi’s hand.

”If Raul always scored the great goals against Barcelona and was said to be the fan favourite, Pepe wants the same thing with his style of play, with his aggressiveness,” Carlos told LaSexta Deportes.

”He’s young and will learn to be calmer. But he has Madrid’s style, a real fighter.”
