Antony’s season at Manchester United has been a nightmare due to a lack of goals, poor performance, and off-field issues that have kept him away from the field. In contrast, on the other side of the Atlantic, Antony of the Portland Timbers started this campaign in the best way possible: a 4-1 victory against the Colorado Rapids with a brace from him.

Antony Alves Santos, a 22-year-old forward with a background in Joinville and a brief stint at Corinthians, scored two goals in a match for the first time in his career in what was the beginning of the MLS season. It took him just over a quarter of an hour of play to reach this personal milestone, with goals in the 14th and 29th minutes of the first half.

As a result, he ranks second in the top scorers’ table of the recently started United States league. At the top is the Belgian Christian Benteke, who scored a hat-trick in DC United’s victory over New England.

Biro scored for Austin FC

Antony was not the only Brazilian to find the back of the net in the first round of the MLS. Defender Guilherme Biro, formerly of Coritiba and Mirassol, scored in his team Austin FC’s 2-1 defeat against Minnesota United.

Biro, a 23-year-old left-back, was a substitute and came on in the second half. He joined the MLS last month after signing a contract that ties him to Austin FC until the end of the 2026 season, with an option for 2027.
