First half

At Maracanã, the start of the derby between Flamengo and Fluminense was cautious. Both teams adopted a stance of mutual observation, with Fluminense having more ball possession (55%) and creating the clearest goal opportunity in the first 45 minutes when Arias tried to surprise with a direct free-kick, forcing Rossi into a decisive save.

Flamengo, on the other hand, attempted eight shots on goal, none of which posed a real threat to the opponent’s goal. The red and black team remained defensively organized, complicating Fluminense’s task of breaking through their defense.

The Tricolor prioritized ball possession in their defensive field, facing moments of pressure, especially when Guga lost the ball on the wing on three occasions and Fábio was almost dispossessed by Pedro and Arrascaeta.

Second half

In the second half, Fluminense tried to impose a more offensive rhythm, and Flamengo initially struggled to develop plays.

However, in the first clear chance they had, Flamengo opened the scoring with Pedro, scoring his first goal in derbies this year.

The game gained dynamism after the goal, with Cebolinha extending the lead after an excellent team play, finished with an assist from the number 9.

Fluminense responded with three goal attempts, while Flamengo created five more offensive opportunities.

Despite Fluminense controlling more ball possession, Flamengo proved slightly superior in the confrontation.

Upcoming matches

In the final round of the Taça Guanabara, Flamengo will play against Madureira at Maracanã, while Fluminense will face Botafogo at the same stadium. The dates of the matches are still pending confirmation.

Fluminense will play the second leg of the Recopa final against LDU on Thursday, February 29, also at Maracanã. After a 1-0 defeat in the first leg, Tricolor seeks to overturn the scoreline to clinch the title.
