Corinthians has announced this Thursday (28) afternoon that Mano Menezes will be the team’s coach after the demise of Vanderlei Luxemburgo. Menezes is already at the training ground and will be on the sidelines for the match against São Paulo on Saturday (30).

His biggest mission will be taking the team to the Copa Sudamericana final. The second leg against Fortaleza will be next Tuesday (3) after a 1-1 draw.

Menezes’s agreement with Corinthians comes after a rumored deal between Flamengo and Tite, not yet confirmed by any of the parties. It was said that Timão fired Luxemburgo to try to convince Tite, but the manager’s answer was that he already had struck something with the Rubro Negro.

This is the third time that Mano Menezes is managing Corinthians. On the first one, he won the Brazilian Cup and left the team to manage the Brazilian National Team in 2010. He returned four years later and paved the way for the team that would conquer almost everything under Tite.

He is the third coach with most games for the club (248), only behind Oswaldo Brandão (435) and Tite (378).

Menezes worked at Internacional until July, when he was fired after successive bad results.
