Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus says he felt confident he would score in the Seleção’s 2-0 Copa América semi-final win over Argentina on Tuesday night.

Brazil qualified for the final thanks to goals from Jesus and Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino. Jesus said he had an inkling he would score before the game.

He told Globo, “I'm speechless. I consider all games important, even the ones that I do not do well in, because I take lessons from it.

“Today I came into the game thinking I would score. The other times I did not say that. But because I came very confident.

“At the beginning of the game I got a ball and went up. First I made a mistake and then I got the goal. Firmino managed to find me very well and that gave me confidence.”

Jesus again played on the right of a front 3, with Firmino through the middle. In the second half, Gabriel turned provider for his strike partner.
