Palmeiras and Manchester City have reached an official agreement for the transfer of 19-year-old Brazilian attacker Gabriel Jesus.
Out of the total €32.75 million transfer fee, Palmeiras will receive €20.75 million, while the rest will be with the agents who had part of the economic rights and also the player himself. Gabriel Jesus said: “Manchester City are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I’m very happy to sign for them. They have many great players and a fantastic coach who is Pep Guardiola, with whom I can learn a lot. I hope to show my best to the City fans and I think we will have a great future together.”
Gabriel Jesus is currently with the Brazilian national team preparing for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He will stay at Palmeiras until the end of the Brazilian Championship, and should arrive at Manchester City in January 2017. Palmeiras will also profit from bonuses based on Gabriel’s performances in English football, plus 5% of any future negotiation. Gabriel Jesus had attracted interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Juventus and Inter Milan, but a phone call from Spanish coach Pep Guardiola turned out to be decisive.
