Internacional fans returned to Porto Alegre today to be greeted by fan protest.

Coach Abel Braga was the principal target following the club’s elimination from the Copa do Brasil, the Copa Sul-Americana, and a fall in their league form.

The club have won just one of their last five Brasileirão matches, and now trail league leaders Cruzeiro by nine points.

Not even captain and idol, playmaker Andres d’Alessandro, escaped the wrath of the supporters at Salgado Filho airport this afternoon.

As the players left the aeroplane, club security guards directed them to exit via a side door of the airport rather than through the main lobby.

Dida, Fabrício, Paulão, Rafael Moura and Abel Braga were all verbally abused as they made their way outside.

D’Alessandro responded to fans demanding answers with a crude gesture, which in turn elft the protesters even more furious. The midfielder then boarded the bus that took the players away from the tempestuous atmosphere.

Meanwhile, fans remained at the airport for a while afterwards shouting and singing. Club president Giovanni Luigi and director of football Marcelo Medeiros were also targeted.

Internacional host relegation threatened Botafogo on Sunday at the Estádio Beira-Rio. The fans have promised further action if results do not pick up soon.
