Brazil forward Jonas Gonçalves Oliveira could be set for a switch to the Premier League after his proposed transfer to Portuguese giants Benfica fell through.

The 30-year-old was expected to move to Benfica after negotiating with the club last week.

However, the forward, who is more commonly known as Jonas, would now prefer a move to north London side Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Metro.

Portuguese paper Record state the Brazilian could move to White Hart Lane on a short-term deal on wages of £25,000-a-week and would link up with former Valencia team mate Roberto Soldado.

Jonas departed the La Liga outfit at the end of last season but has struggled to agree terms with various clubs throughout the summer, despite being linked with many.

It now seems, though, that he has his heart set on a switch to Tottenham and the free agent would certainly boost the attacking options available to Argentine Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino, were he to join the north London club.
