Brazil goalkeeper Júlio César has admitted he was surprised to see Spain exit the World Cup after two matches.

The reigning champions were knocked out with a game to spare after defeats to Chile and Netherlands.

“Not even the most pessimistic expected what happened to Spain,” said Júlio César, as reported by Football Espana.

“Spain have great players who have won it all in recent years.

“This is more proof that football is 11 against 11 and the games you’ve played are erased by the next one.”

Spain’s final match is against Australia, who have also already been knocked out.
