Napoli have threatened São Paulo with legal action after comments made about the club by President Carlos Miguel Aidar.
The Brazilian responded to reports linking Napoli with midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso by stating that “not even all the money from the Camorra is enough to take him away!”
That comment, which appears to link Napoli with the Camorra, has infuriated the club, who have retaliated with a strongly worded statement.
“With regards to the declarations of the São Paulo President, who offended the image and history of a glorious and prestigious club like SSC Napoli, the only thing we can add is that each person will be judged on what he says,” read a statement from the club, as reported by Football Italia.
“His affirmations do not deserve more attention than he has already received in this brief note.
“Naturally, we add that there were never any negotiations for Ganso, a player who is of no interest to us.
“In any case, the offensive and crazed ramblings of Carlos Miguel Aidar are already being looked over by our legal team, as SSCN intends to protect the image of the club from this grave defamation.”
Ganso, who has been capped eight times by Brazil, joined São Paulo from Santos in September 2012. This season, the 24 year-old has made six appearances, scoring two goals.
