Two Brasileirao losses, sandwiched in between a shock first leg Copa do Brasil reverse against Sampaio Correa, had left the Sao Paulo side in something of a form crisis.
And it was Brazil legend and Palmeiras new boy Lucio who broke the deadlock, scoring his first goal for the club after 16 minutes, the 2002 World Cup winner calmly finishing on the volley from William Matheus’ free kick.
And another assist from Matheus allowed Henrique to loop a header past the Goias keeper on 32 minutes, sealing an impressive home win for the club that have won the Brasileirao on eight occasions.
Palmeiras now turn their attentions to the return Copa do Brasil fixture with Sampaio on Thursday night, when expectations will be high that they can avenge the first leg defeat.
