Botafogo jumped up the standings in the Brasileirao after thumping Criciuma 6-0 on Saturday evening, as the hosts continued a revival of sorts since going out of the Copa Libertadores in this year’s group stages.

Having not won in five games, Botafogo sat in the bottom three of the championship after three games going into this fixture but blew away their opponents after the break, having gone in at half time a goal to the good through Emerson Sheikh.

The Qatari international, a new signing at the club, added to his tally after 52 minutes, prompting an opening of Criciuma’s floodgates.

A brilliant hat-trick from attacking midfielder Daniel, 20, sealed an emphatic win and the icing on Botafogo’s cake came courtesy of a goal in the 81st minute through Wallyson, assisted by the impressive Daniel.

The hosts now sit ninth in the table, with a positive goal difference of two, albeit most teams still have their fourth round matches to play today.
