Internacional midfielder Andres D’Alessandro has been named as the best foreign player from 2013’s Brasileiro, fighting off competition from over 50 possible winners. The Argentine, in his sixth year with the club, was understandably honoured to receive the accolade.
“I thank the EFE (International news agency) and the fact that I’m the first person to receive this prize makes me proud.”
D’Alessandro saw off competition from luminaries such as Clarence Seedorf (now head coach at Italian side AC Milan), Walter Montillo, the fellow Argentine that played for Santos, and Peru’s Corinthians striker Paulo Guerrero.
“Having been among these players, it gives more importance to the award,” the 32 year-old told reporters after receiving his trophy.
It will be a testing 2014 for Internacional, with a new coach in the form of Abel Braga, and much will rest on Brazil’s best foreign player from 2013.
