Brazil striker Fred has lavished praise on Fluminense, labelling his current club as the biggest he has played for and describing the debt to which he owes them for turning around a career that at one point looked destined for mediocrity.

“I do not consider myself the greatest player in Fluminense’s history, but I think I’ll have a twinge of recognition. Fluminense I think is the biggest club I have played for.”

“There are a few things I still want to achieve here- a third Brazilian championship and the Copa Libertadores.”

“I am very grateful to Flu, I owe everything to them.”

Fred, who is widely regarded as Brazil’s first choice striker in a famous World Cup year, moved to Lyon in France from Cruzeiro in 2005 and won three consecutive titles before falling out of favour and joining Fluminense in 2009, where he has to date won two Campeonatos.
