Internacional midfielder Andres D’Alessandro has all but given up hope of representing Argentina at this summer’s World Cup after seeing squads announced in the past year that do not have him in the manager Alejandro Sabella’s thoughts.
D’Alessandro, who has 28 caps for his country, has not played since 2011 and the fact that he plays in Brazil appears not to have curried favour with Sabella. The 32 year-old admits that his chances of a final international flurry are redundant: “I’ve seen the past two World Cups which I was close to the national team. I was there but they did not take me.”
“This time unfortunately, I know I am not in the group.”
D’Alessandro is still enjoying his football at Internacional, though: “I have a very good relationship with Inter and their supporters; I’m in my sixth year and I’m very happy here.”
The former River Plate midfielder could be forgiven for knowing his Argentina days are over with the country boasting Lionel Messi amonst a host of attacking options.
