Atlético Madrid defender Filipe Luís would prefer a move to AS Monaco over Manchester United according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

The 28-year-old has been excellent for Diego Simeone’s side this season as they have taken La Liga by surprise and sit joint top of the table alongside Barcelona and Real Madrid with just 15 games remaining.

Mundo Deportivo believe that Filipe Luís would prefer a move to Ligue 1 with new force Monaco over a switch to England with the Manchester side.

They don’t quote the defender but insist their sources believe that this is the case.

If the defender did make the move to Monaco he would join former team mate Radamel Falcao.

This news comes after another Spanish daily AS report that Man United recently bid €20 million for the left-back but it was rejected hy Atlético.

Filipe Luís will be doing his best to forget about the transfer speculation and look to be focused on helping his side try to go top of the league on their own.

Atlético host Real Valladolid on Saturday afternoon and could temporarily go top of the Spanish league should they win or pick up a point.
