Botafogo defender Dória has reassured fans that the departure of Clarence Seedorf, amongst others, won’t harm their chances of glory in the Copa Libertadores.

It was announced yesterday that Seedorf’s playing days would be over and that he would become the new coach of AC Milan.

And the 19-year-old defender believes the new players that have joined Fogão in the close season have shown their qualities already.

He also told Lance about his relationship with the departing Seedorf and how he had been a great help to him.

“The output of athletes during the change of year is normal but many also came to help us in the Libertadores.

“Like last year, we came out with five or six players and we managed to achieve our goal. This year, those who have joined and came to help are doing excellently in pre-season.

“Seedorf is a guy who was always getting us up, leading us in the activities, wanting to win and work.

“He never let us became relaxed with out game. We spent a lot of experiences together and it gave tranquility to our work.”

Dória has been linked with a move away from Rio de Janeiro, with Chelsea and AC Milan mooted to be interested.

However the Brazil under-20 captain will want to continue shining for Botafogo and will hope a good Libertadores campaign can help him force a way into Luiz Felipe Scolari’s World Cup squad.
