Brazilian newspaper Diário Gaúcho believe Santos are targeting another Grêmio player, as this time they are pursuing the signature of Zé Roberto for the 2014 season.

Peixe are expected to announce the signing of Napoli striker Eduardo Vargas at some point in January, after the forward featured for Zé Roberto’s current team on loan in 2013.

And now the 39-year-old midfielder could link up with his team mate from last season if reports are to be believed. Tricolor have been trying to slash their wage bill and the departure of Zé Roberto would significantly boost those cuts.

He is due to meet the Grêmio board and discuss his future soon but in the mean time a move to Santos has been speculated. That transfer would see the former Brazil international link up with his old side.

Zé Roberto played at Peixe for a year and enjoyed a positive spell with the club. He helped them win the 2007 Campeonato Paulista and contributed towards them reaching the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores.

His current team Grêmio return to pre-season on January 8th and you suspect the experienced midfielders future will be resolved then.
