Brazilian keeper Helton has signed a one-year contract extension with current club Porto to extend his stay with the Portuguese club to 2015.

The 35-year-old’s current contract was due to run out in the summer but he has tied himself down for another year, meaning when his next contract runs out he would have served ten years at the Estádio do Dragão.

The goalkeeper made three appearances for the Brazilian national team between 2006 and 2007 and Helton told the official Porto website his delight.

“I want to make the most of this renewal and return within the field, with work, wins and titles.

“I am happy and proud to know that people still trust in my work and in my jurisdictions.”

The former Vasco da Gama stopper has been an ever present for Porto and is expected to start their next match against Benfica in the Liga ZON Sagres.

That fixture is a crucial game in the fight for the title as Porto, Benfica and Sporting Lisbon are all level on 33 points after 14 rounds.

Helton will hope to celebrate his contract renewal with a solid performance against Porto’s arch rivals and help his side get the upper hand in the title race.
