The midfielder has begun 2014 in style by scoring City’s first goal of the year. The Brazilian starred in Manchester City’s 3-2 win away at Swansea on Wednesday, a victory which keeps the 2012 champions firmly in the Premier League title race.

“I’m very happy with the goal and the away win today. The team has been training hard to achieve these positive results in the league,” said the player who joined the club at the beginning of the season.

The 28-year-old seems to have already won the confidence of the coach Manuel Pellegrini and a third goal in less than three weeks will have done nothing to harm that. The goal was scored on 13 minutes after a corner was only partially cleared by the Swansea defence.

Manchester City’s next game will be away at Newcastle United on Sunday.
