Hernanes scored a superb goal but later missed a penalty as Lazio drew 1-1 with Roma in the Derby della Capitale on Monday.

The Brazilian playmaker had a game of mixed fortunes at the Stadio Olimpico after putting the Biancocelesti ahead in the 16th minute.

Senad Lulic countered from a Roma corner and picked out the unmarked Hernanes, who smashed a fine 30-yard strike past a helpless Stekelenburg and into the top corner.

Hernanes then looked to turn provider as he picked out the marauding Lulic in the 18-yard box but Stekelenburg got down quickly to save his effort comfortably.

Lazio had a great opportunity to double their lead just after half time when Marquinhos was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area but Hernanes put the penalty well wide.

Things went from bad to worse for the 27-year-old when he brought down Miralem Pjanic inside the box to concede the game’s second penalty just 10 minutes later.

Francesco Totti stepped up and rolled it into the bottom corner to level the score just before the hour mark.

Vladimir Petkovic’s side were reduced to 10 men 20 minutes from time when Giuseppe Biava was shown his second yellow card in the space of six minutes for bringing down Brazilian defender Marquinhos.

Roma looked to make their numerical advantage count and could have grabbed a winner but Erik Lamela somehow turned Totti’s corner over the bar from two yards out.
