Fluminense coach Abel Braga has hit out at critics and says he alone will decide when players can be rested.

The coach has come in for criticism after Fluminense’s 3-2 loss to Vasco for overplaying certain players with the Copa Libertadores also occupying their schedule.

But the veteran manager was bullish in his press conference: “If we reach a certain point and I find it necessary to rest players, we will. We have not changed our plans because of the result.

“The important thing is that my team showed that it is strong and physically healthy, “said Braga, recalling the fact that Fluminense have played in Chile in midweek, and again on Saturday.

Braga even complained about the media in midweek, who claimed they should give his players more rest. But the coach was defiant: “After this match, I feel even more proud of my team.”
