Chelsea defender David Luiz is “sure” that Brazil will win the World Cup on home soil in 2014, despite Wednesday night’s defeat to England.

The 25-year-old captained the Seleção as Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard scored to give the Three Lions a morale-boosting 2-1 win at Wembley last night.

However, the Blues man has put the loss down to a lack of fitness in the Brazil-based players and is confident that the Seleção will hit form by the time next year’s tournament rolls around.

He said: “Of course I want to win the World Cup next year and I know, for sure, that we will win.

“It was a great night for me to be captain here because the English people have been a big help to me since I came to play in this country.

“But although it was a great night for me, it was not a great result.

“England’s level of fitness was different to Brazil’s because for 40 per cent of our team just starting their season, so you need to take account of that in this game.”
