Vasco da Gama head coach Marcelo Oliveira has revealed that he has not yet received any salary from the club, despite taking over as coach on the 12th September.

Oliveira, 54, who started the year as coach of Coritiba, took the reigns at the Rio giants after former coach Christopher Borges resigned after the 4-0 defeat to Portuguesa.

He told Fox Sports: “I’ve not received any salary yet, but I know this is a problem at Vasco. It’s a problem that can affect everyone on the pitch. Not that the player does not want to play but it can cause demotivation.”

The coach made it clear that “the board is looking to solve” the wages problem but has received no promise from the board when the Carioca club will pay.

Vasco currently sit fifth in the Brasileirão with 50 points, five less than São Paulo, who have played a game more. Oliveira’s team are next in action this Wednesday when they will play this International at home.
