Real Madrid’s Marcelo is to visit a specialist in the Netherlands in order to undergo surgery on a fractured metatarsal bone according to reports.

The Brazil international recently fractured his metatarsal in training with the national team and was subsequently ruled out for three months. The Seleção fullback will now go under the knife on Friday in a bid to cut his recovery time short, according to Goal.com.

Los Blancos coach Jose Mourinho recently visited the left-back in hospital and the club’s medical team have decided to send the player to Dr. Niek van Dijk in Amsterdam who has also previously operated on Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin van Persie.

Real Madrid are also in position to claim up to €1.8m from Fifa as part of their new Fifa Club Protection Programme which enables clubs to claim compensation if their players are injured on international duty.

Marcelo recently revealed in an exclusive interview with Real’s website that he would do everything to get back to first team action ‘as soon as possible’.
