São Paulo coach Ney Franco has admitted that goalkeeper and captain Rogério Ceni could stay if the club made it into the Copa Libertadores.

The Tricolor coach told Terra: “It seems to me that he wants to stay, especially if we enter the Libertadores. He is a born leader, who has an important role in our team. When you arrive at any club, the first thing you do is find the leaders in the squad.

“Then you have to channel this leadership positively and make it work for you. It’s very interesting to work with this leader, side by side.”

Franco praised the goalkeeper’s exceptional career, and told reporters that he believes Ceni could still play for the Seleção: “I saw an interview with him where he said when he was at the top of his game in 2006, he did not play in the World Cup.

“If I had a World Cup today, Rogério Ceni would be an ideal player. He is a leader and would fit in any team.”
