Internacional head coach Fernandão was happy with his team’s performance in the 3-0 victory over Atlético Mineiro on Wednesday night. The victory came thanks to goals from Jackson, Fred and Cassiano and the 3 points have made Copa Libertadores qualification a real possibility.

Fernandão, 34, told Porto Alegre newspaper Zero Hora:

“The whole team in general was good, everyone fulfilled their functions well, looked to engage with the ball and to keep it moving.”

The coach was also keen to praise the younger players that were drafted into the squad to cover for the large injury list, especially young defender Jackson, who made sure they did not miss top scorer Leandro Damião.

“The first day I had to put him in I had no doubt about it. Nobody at the club has doubts regarding him. We knew he was ready. It was just a matter of time to find his place in the team.

“Those who followed the arrival of Jackson earlier this year will see how he has grown from training alongside the likes of Indian, Bolivar and now Juan.”
