Palmeiras have announced that they have parted company with coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.
The 63-year-old, who guided Brazil to World Cup glory in 2002, spent just over two years in charge of the Verdão, having joined the club for the second time in his career in June 2010.
Scolari helped Palmeiras win the Copa do Brasil earlier this season, but his position at the São Paulo-based club had come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks as the side only managed to pick up one win out of their last eight Brasileirão matches.
Following Wednesday night’s 3-1 loss away at Vasco, Palmeiras decided at a meeting on Thursday that the former Chelsea manager was no longer the man to take the club forward.
Scolari leaves Palmeiras in nineteenth place in the Brasileirão, seven points from safety, with just fourteen games remaining.
Emerson Leão, who is currently the coach of São Caetano, is being tipped as the favourite to replace Scolari in the Palmeiras hot seat.
