Lazio midfielder Hernanes reportedly turned down the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window.

Reports in Italy claim that Spurs were willing to pay €15million for the 27-year-old, but neither the player or the Biancocelsti were interested.

Hernanes’ agent Joseph Lee has stated that he has met with Lazio president Cluadio Lotito, who informed him that his client is considered as a key member of Vladmir Petkovic’s side.

”I met president Lotito at Villa San Sebastiano. We talked about today, and also about the future,” Lee told lalaziosiamonoi.it.

”Lotito has confirmed to me that Hernanes is a very important player for Lazio, but I would not to enter into the details of our discussions.

”Extending the contract? Hernanes has an agreement that ties him to SS Lazio until 2015 so there is still time.”

Hernanes, who has been capped eight times by Brazil, joined the Rome club in 2010 after nine years with São Paulo
