Beginning his career at Flamengo with the likes of Zico and Júnior and spending many years alongside Francesco Totti, Gabriel Batistuta and Cafu amongst others, it is fair to say Aldair knows a quality player when he sees one.

Hence, the 80-times capped Brazilian centre-back has been asked to vote as one of eleven former professional footballer experts in the race for the Samba Gold Trophy 2011.

“It is hard to decide my vote, as to this year, which Brazilians shone in European football,” said a thoughtful Aldair, exclusively to Sambafoot.

“My vote goes to Robinho. He started the season well, playing well once again.

“He is one of Brazil’s most important players out there and certainly should be in 2014 due to his age, the football he is playing and for all he has done.

“Actually, he has returned to playing really well.”

Robinho, one of 30 nominees for the Samba Gold trophy, was an Italian champion with AC Milan this year, a feat Aldair achieved with Roma in 2000/2001.

The defender’s other two votes were given to Thiago Silva, a club-mate of Robinho, and Daniel Alves, right full-back for Barcelona.

What about you? You have already voted? More than 40,000 votes have been recorded in the race for the Samba Gold trophy! You have until 30th December to choose the best Brazilian player in Europe! Vote now!
