The 27-game unbeaten streak by Barcelona was broken this past weekend
as Getafe defeated the Spanish champs by a score of 1-0. Barcelona had not
suffered a defeat since April 30th but they couldn’t find the net in the loss to
Getafe. Barcelona had some late chances to tie Getafe but Lionel Messi had
a goal disallowed as Keita was said to be offside and Messi also hit the post
with another shot. Barcelona was just one game short of the club unbeaten
record of 28 games that was set last season.
Conservative Game Plan for Getafe
Not many teams have been able to slow down Barcelona in recent seasons
but Getafe found a way. They played an extremely conservative game that
limited both team’s chances. Valera scored the only goal of the game for
Getafe and it was enough. Barcelona dominated the match but they didn’t
get many quality chances until late in the contest and then Getafe goalkeeper
Moya stoned them.
With the loss, Barcelona falls six points behind Real Madrid in La Liga.
Real Madrid won their 13th straight game over the weekend as they routed
Atletico Madrid 4-1 in football soccer betting.
Alves says it’s Not Over
Barcelona’s Dani Alves said that even though his team trails Real Madrid
by six points, the league title is not out of reach. “Many would hand the
league over to Real Madrid now and they are letting off fireworks,” Alves
said, “But the challenge is exciting and it fascinates us. And luckily for us
there is still a long way to go.”
The key for Barcelona will be winning the Clasico on December 10th at the
Santiago Bernabeu. A football soccer betting loss in that match would
put Barcelona nine points back and then it just might be over. “A nine-
point difference, if we lose at the Bernabeu, would be tremendous,” Alves
said, “There is no margin for error, but we will go there and compete as we
know how.”
After 13 games in this year’s La Liga, Real Madrid has 34 points while
Barcelona has 28 points. Valencia is still within striking distance with 27
points as is Levante who has 26 points. Madrid not only leads Barcelona by
six points in the table they also have a goal differential of +36 which is five
better than Barcelona who is at +31.
