São Paulo 0x0 Coritiba

The combined attacking talents of Luis Fabiano, Dagoberto and Lucas Moura were not enough for São Paulo as they failed to overcome a stubborn Coritiba side at the Morumbi.

Marlos had the Paulista side’s best efforts in the 2nd half, but goalkeeper Vanderlei was a match for all thrown at him and Coritiba kept an all-important clean-sheet.

São Paulo’s title dream seems to be all but over now, with seven games still to play. The Tricolor lie eight points off top and not in the kind of form to suggest a challenge will emerge.

Internacional 1×1 Corinthians

Internacional came out the blocks firing in their pursuit of an unlikely Libertadores place and within the opening periods of the game had several chances to take the lead, with Oscar missing an easy early chance and Jô culpable on more than one occasion.

Before the break however, the game would swing more in the Gaúcho side’s favour, with Corinthians’ captain Alessandro dismissed for a reckless lunge on Andrezinho.

It was Andrezinho who would then punish Corinthians more by opening the scoring midway through the second half, but Corinthians did not stop pushing and in the final minutes got their rewards, with Alex firing in a free-kick after D’Alessandro had been dismissed for Inter.

Corinthians now lie two points off Vasco da Gama at the table’s summit, whilst Inter are two points off Fluminense and the Libertadores places.
