The young right-back joined Santos last year, and in February helped Brazil’s Under-20 side to win the South American Youth Championship. He has become an important member in the Peixe starting line-up, and has been attracting interest from Europe.

Benfica are one of the interested sides, but Santos director Pedro Luiz says they will contact FIFA if rumours that the Portuguese club have spoken to Danilo without permission prove to be true.

“No offer has been made to Santos,” Luiz told Radio Renascenca. “We have heard a lot of news about interest from Benfica, and it is even speculated that the foundations to an agreement with the player have been laid.

“If that is confirmed, we will file a complaint to FIFA because there is a lack of ethics on Benfica’s part, if they are acting in such a way. There are other clubs who have already contacted Santos and acted in an ethical way,” he added.

“Santos have no interest in selling Danilo, but if the sale does happen, it will certainly not be to Benfica.”
