Dede has been at Borussia since 1998 and made over 300 appearances, as well as picking up a single Brazil cap in his time at the club. But his contract with last season"s Bundesliga champions will not be renewed, and he has confirmed talks with Mainz.
“I gave [Jurgen] Klopp a phone call and I spoke to him about Mainz," Dede told Bild. Klopp is Dede"s current manager at Borussia Dortmund, and knows Mainz well, having managed the club between 2001 and 2008.
Christian Heidel, sporting director at Mainz, added: “Dede is a very good player for the left-hand side. However, as of yet there has been no offer for him." Botafogo are also thought to be interested in signing him.
