Two days after the resignation of coach Roger Machado, Grêmio president Romildo Bolzan Júnior said that he would’ve kept him at the club until the end of his term.
The president ruled out inviting any coach, admitted that many intermediaries were approached, but made it clear that any step will be taken only after the official recognition of the new football department. According to Romildo, the coach to be hired will have to necessarily accept a three-month contract which may be renewed in the event of success. All because there is a presidential election at the end of the year and his stay at the club is uncertain. Roger Machado resigned from Grêmio after the defeat to Ponte Preta last Wednesday. On Sunday against Fluminense, James Freitas will lead the team. To rescue the spirit of the team and to try and pinch a place in the Copa Libertadores, which, however, seems difficult in the current scenario, Grêmio have been considering the possibility of appointing club idol Renato Portaluppi as their coach for the remaining three months.
