– 1st stage – Electoral College nominates the best in each category: formed by a select group of professionals linked to the world of football, the Electoral College is responsible for nominating players in the three categories, regarding the most prominent in the year of the dispute in Brazil or abroad. The award considers the athlete’s statistics, role, achievements and overall impact on their club(s) from the beginning to the end of the year.

– 2nd stage – Delivery of the Samba Gold trophy: the personalized Samba Gold trophy is delivered by Sambafoot directly to the three winners – male, female and under-20. The first placed winners will have their names revealed on a specific date defined in the year in which the competition is valid. The announcement will be made through Sambafoot’s own website and social networks and on the Samba Gold page.

About the prize

Samba Gold was created by Samba Agency (Sambafoot) in 2008 and had former midfielder Kaká as its first winner. In the last three editions, star Neymar Jr. took home the trophy and became the biggest winner in the history of the award, with six wins in total. Thiago Silva occupies second place in the historical ranking, with three awards.

Initially intended exclusively for men’s football, Samba Gold grows every year, and today includes three categories: men, women and Under-20.

At first, the award took into account the performance of the athletes in exclusively European territory. In 2021, it was expanded to all continents and, from that year onwards, players can be playing in any country (including Brazil).
