Flamengo had the pleasure of lifting the Libertadores trophy twice in the last five editions, but they want more. After being eliminated in the round of 16 in 2023, Mengão will be looking for redemption this year as they hope to claim eternal glory for the fourth time in history.

With that goal in sight, the club made a strong investment in the transfer market, with stellar signings such as Nicolás de la Cruz, Matías Viña, and Léo Ortiz.

According to Transfermarkt, the Rio giant spent a total of €14.50 million for the Uruguayan midfielder, while paying 8.10 million of the same currency for the Uruguayan defender and another €7 million for the center-back. Thus, they were the participant that spent the most money in signings to challenge for the 2024 Libertadores title.
