The match

The Brazilian national team started with an intense pace, pressing the opponents and not giving them space to organize their plays. Within five minutes, the team had already entered the Canadian area three times.

Brazil’s goal

The Brazilian goal was a matter of time, although Canada posed a threat on the counterattacks. At the 20th minute, Ludmila made a run down the left and was brought down inside the box. A well-awarded penalty,

With confidence, Tarciane took the ball and assumed the responsibility. The 20-year-old defender took the penalty very well, and the national team opened the scoring at the 21st minute.

Dominance

Those who thought that the Brazilian national team would slow down with the lead on the scoreboard were mistaken. At the 27th minute, goalkeeper Sheridan prevented the second goal after a long-range shot from Jheniffer. At the 31st minute, Antonia took a first-time shot from the edge of the box and almost scored. The ball narrowly missed the post.

Pressure

At the 32nd minute, in another good attack from the Brazilian national team, goalkeeper Sheridan intervened to stop the play. Minutes later, Priscila made a good move down the left and took a shot with her right foot. Sheridan watched the ball closely as it passed close to the goal. Brazil would still create another opportunity in the first half, with Gabi Portilho.

She advanced down the right, left the defender behind, entered the box, but took too long to shoot. She was applauded by the entire national team’s bench for her effort.

Balance

Canada returned from the break more aggressive. Nevertheless, Brazil continued with vigor. Opportunities were created on both sides. The Brazilian team’s chances were stopped by Sheridan, the best player of the match. Canada’s chances, in general, ended up going out for a goal kick.

Equalizing goal

From a corner kick on the left, there was indecision in the Brazilian defense, and Gilles took advantage to score the equalizing goal. It was 31 minutes into the game, and the Brazilian national team felt the blow.

Marta and Cristiane

As the minutes passed, anticipating that the decision for a spot in the SheBelieves final would be through penalties, Arthur Elias sent Marta and Cristiane onto the field, replacing Ludmila and Ana Vitória, respectively.

Penalties

And that’s what happened. The match ended in a draw thanks to Sheridan, who, at the 49th minute, saved her team from a shot by Yaya. In the shootout, Marta and Antonia did not convert, while Cristiane and Tarciane scored. However, it was not enough for the Brazilian national team to secure the spot. Canada won 4-2.
