Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus says that Brazilian league leaders Flamengo could be a match for any team in Europe currently.
Jorge Jesus’ side are 8 points clear at the top of the Brasileirão with 8 games remaining and have a Copa Libertadores final against River Plate later this month.
The Rio club have won 17 and drawn 4 of their last 21 matches, leading to debate in Brazil as to how they would measure up against Europe’s finest.
If they defeat River in Santiago in 3 weeks’ time, they could potentially play Liverpool in the Club World Cup in December.
City striker Jesus thinks they would be a match for the European champions and current Premier League leaders.
"To be honest, as a player, I think it is possible for a Brazilian team to compete with Liverpool.
I've been following Brazilian football from here [in Manchester].. Flamengo has a huge squad, with great players and a great coach. They’ve been playing very well."
