Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho says that Pep Guardiola will use him as a central defender this signing after the signing of Rodri from Atletico Madrid.
Rodri is seen as the long-term heir to Fernandinho in the deep midfield position and the Brazilian says he could move to centre-back to accommodate Rodri.
“We had a conversation last year and I probably should be used as a centre back in some games.
“Of course, I need to train more to adapt well to this position, which is a different position, but the style of play we play here favours me a lot, which helps.
“You are opening a range of options for the coach, this is very important. Sometimes he wants to set up the team against an opponent in some way, with some pieces, and can't because of suspension or injury.
“If you have a player who can do two or three roles within the team that makes it much easier for him.”
