Arsenal manager Unai Emery has poured cold water on reports that Arsenal were planning a shock loan move for Barcelona outcast Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian has been linked with a move away all summer after his £114m move from Liverpool last January.
Coutinho has not impressed at the Nou Camp and has been linked with a return to Liverpool, a transfer to Manchester United and a move to Paris Saint Germain.
However, news broke on Friday that Arsenal were planning a late loan move for the player for 2 years with an obligation to buy in 2021.
Arsenal representatives were in Barcelona over the weekend as the teams played a friendly at the Nou Camp on Sunday.
However, when quizzed about the links, Gunners boss Unai Emery suggested there was little substance to them.
“He is a splendid player, but we have not talked at any time about Coutinho,” he told reporters after the game.
There are still suggestions that Coutinho could be used as bait in a transfer to bring Neymar back to Barcelona from PSG.
