Real Madrid left-back Marcelo insists he has not given up on his international career despite spending a year in the wilderness from Tite’s plans.

The 31-year old has not been selected since the last World Cup and endured a tough season at Madrid. But he says he is still working to return to the national side.

“I don’t know if ‘strange’ is the word I would use to be out of the team. But you work every day thinking of the Seleção,” he told Globo.

“One of the objectives I have every day until I retire is how I am able to wear the shirt of my country again.

“The coach has total freedom to choose the players he wants and that he thinks are the best at the moment, that he prefers.

“What I can do is to work, now I am on my holidays, but when I return I will give it my all because in the next call, I want to be there.”
