Brazil midfielder Paulinho says that he has been strong in the face of adversity, between the 2014 World Cup and this summer’s tournament in Russia.

The player joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 and lost his confidence after an indifferent spell. He went to China to regroup and eventually won a move to Barcelona.

“If you look at my career it has always been about overcoming difficulties in different places. There was some lack of trust and criticism.

“I had criticism in different clubs I played for. When i played in Corinthians, Tottenham and Barcelona there was some criticism but I always did my work, trying to do my best.

“But I kept working trying to be the best professional possible. It has been difficult to make the Brazil squad and now I’m here it will be difficult to get me out.

“I feel privileged and I’m going through the best moment of my career.” Paulinho is set to start in midfield for Brazil’s Group E opener against Switzerland on Sunday.
