New Manchester United midfielder Fred has paid tribute to Shakhtar Donetsk and its fans, as he departs the club after a five year spell at the Ukrainian club.
The player will join Premier League giants Manchester United after this summer’s World Cup, where he forms part of the Brazil squad.
Fred told Shakhtar Donetsk’s official website, “The years have passed really quick. I well remember the time when I just arrived in Donetsk. They welcomed me with open arms.
“I was glad to be at Shakhtar. I'm happy that I played here, claimed multiple titles with the team, worked with wonderful people who shared their positive emotions with me every day.
“I'm happy because I know that I’ve become part of the history of the great club. I’m grateful to the fans and Shakhtar for what they’ve done for me over the years.”
Asked for a message for the supporters, the midfielder said, “I’m really thankful to the fans! The supporters always greeted me warmly. I thank them for their passion and support.
“Once again I want to thank Shakhtar and the team for my every achievement and I wish them good luck. I want the Donetsk club to continue winning titles in Ukraine and in Europe.”
