The name in the dreams of Flamengo supporters for 2017, Felipe Melo has become a transfer target for two other major clubs from Brazilian football.
According to the information from Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Flamengo have competition from Corinthians and São Paulo in the race for the former national team player. On Monday, Yahoo blogger Bruno Voloch said that Felipe Melo already has a verbal agreement with Flamengo to sign next year. The board of São Paulo also have similar information: after negotiating for few days, a source close to Tricolor revealed that talks have advanced with Flamengo president Eduardo Bandeira de Melo. Corinthians were the last club to enter the race for Felipe Melo; when contacted by club director Alessandro, the midfielder guaranteed that he hasn’t closed a deal with any team. His contract with Inter ends in August 2017, but that shouldn’t be a problem to get him out of Italy. In July, shortly before announcing a deal to sign Diego, Flamengo had met with Felipe Melo. The idea was to invest the wages and bonuses, paid to the ex-Santista, on Melo, who never hid his identity and affection for the club. After a quiet first season in Italy with 28 games and a goal, Felipe Melo played just four of the nine matches of Inter since the start of the Serie A and UEFA Europa League in August. Felipe Melo is also attracting the interest of Chinese clubs. A person close to the midfielder said: “And if China’s proposal is confirmed, it will be very difficult for any club here to compete.”
