Before resuming the 2018 World Cup qualifiers in September, Brazil will have to play the Copa América Centenário with their first team in June, and the Olympic Games with their U23s in August.
CBF wants Neymar to take part in both competitions, and the player also agrees, but it all depends on his club, Barcelona. Barcelona are obliged to release Neymar for the Copa América Centenário, which is a tournament in the FIFA calendar, but there is no such obligation for the Olympic Games. The Catalan club are willing to release him for just one competition and would prefer the Olympics. However, there is a project that will be presented to the Spanish club by CBF to have him in the two competitions.
If Barcelona reach the final of the UEFA Champions League which is scheduled for 28 May, then Neymar will appear for the Copa América after playing this game. Neymar can then go out on vacation, and would present himself to the Olympic team after the other players that are selected for the tournament in Rio. CBF wants the Olympic team to start training from July 18 in Brasília, and Neymar would arrive a week later, around 24 July, which gives the player almost a month to rest.
